Hiya..
You are a being and carry energy..and this energy can and does fluctuate according to your stance..your essence and your interaction..or non interaction..with condition around you .
My feeling it that you are connected with everything around you however there are walls build..and you move to detachment.
Detachment is actually useful but it needs to be controlled..thus by way of advice towards establishing connections..it is worth beginning to touch energy that is passive and non challenging..
If you stand outside and look upwards you have opportunity of connecting with sky and the energy here is beautiful..also connect with Mother Earth and walk barefoot on a beach or grass...
By making connections with Nature you repair the foundation of all that you are..and from this you can build..work with the energy around you and it becomes part of you.
It is especially helpful begin to practice meditation .. use some appropriate music and relax with measured breath...letting the music..which is another energy..flow over you ..you will heal.
Gradually you will become stronger and meet people who resonate with you ..the false walls will tumble and you will find correct stance..and be all you really are.
This is all about you and your energy..and by embracing energy that does not demand of you in any way you will grow.

U r wrong my friend, u r already connected 2 everything and everyone around u, u just hav'nt peeled back ur blinders yet. We are always connected 2 eachother, what we all need to do is view our time here on this earth as an oppurtunity to grow and evolve. Actually my personal theory is that we are here to learn ultimately that we r all pieces of the same spiritual puzzle. Imagine if we all were empathetic towards eachother, imagine my pain affected u as much as your own personal dramas. What if we came together and worked on global flaws and sadness as a team, what if I did my best to look after u and in turn u looked after me. That I guess is the fairy tale ending we can only dream of. Let me simplify an answer 4 u. Start very slowly recognizing that every single energy form that crosses your path is a reflection of whatever is going on within your heart. Interactions with people will always unravel some sort of sacred lesson. For example an emotionally needy person may attract a romantic mate who shows his/her affection through more subtle means. On the surface u may think where is the law of attraction here,b patient because this is the part that will change your whole outlook on life. The universe doesnt claim to be a gentle teacher, she just provides us with the tools to uncover and embrace our spiritual selves. Perhaps this sensitive person who craves so much attention learns that he/she can infact thrive in their own self comfort, maybe they discover a new more fulfilling way of life. Oh and the partner I hear u ask.....perhaps they realise that there is value and worth in trusting another enough to express our true desires and needs. I hope u find the strength 2 stay concious of your souls desires, I wish 4 u a life filled with adventure and joy........not because of any reason other than I know your pain. I understand what it is to feel trapped in a thick, choking smog, I battle my own demons and through my pain I have learnt to see myself in everything around me, I even feel connected to animals and nature. One of my favourite ways of centring and calming my thoughts is to gently brush my finger tips over a tree or shrub, I swear I can feel a shared energy. I know I sound a little out there but I seriously dont mind, I have found a way to live my life with magick, love and an abundance of adventure......................PEACE, LOVE AND LIGHT.

An interesting question. You might consider "Meditation: A Simple Eight Point Plan for Translating Spiritual Ideals into Daily Life," Eknath Easwaran, Ph.D. http://www.easwaran.org
Or perhaps http://www.yogananda-srf.org or http://www.family.org and their toll-free professional counseling line, 1-800-232-6459.
"The Path of Virtue," Jonathan Murro, and "A Philosophy of Universality," O. M. Aivanhov, are helpful as to promoting inner work, development of character, etc. "Climb the Highest Mountain," Mark Prophet, is inspirational, as is "Expecting Adam," Martha Beck.
By knowing Self, and raising one's energy, one then connects to God and to neighbor as Self.
http://www.coasttocoastam.com radio has an occasional inspirational speaker on this general topic.
cordially,
j.
p.s. Try caring for a plant or a goldfish or such...seriously. It can be a learning experience. And, the kingdom is within; keep on reaching out, and perhaps meet others with similar interests.
"The Reincarnation of Edgar Cayce?", Free and Wilcock, gives an honest portrait of a young man's journey into awareness, and Salim Michael's "The Way of Inner Vigilance" is an example of someone who grew up without a "mother tongue," quite isolated in his way. "Hidden Camera," Zoran Zivkovic, is a fictional account of an isolated individual, which might provide you some comic relief. "The Great Divorce," C. S. Lewis, is a warm account of meeting self and others.
