Buy more ram and put the biggest P4 you can in. Do windows updates--they help, and go into power options in control panel and select "high performance" uninstall any wothless HP proprietory software, if you're using Nortons junk it and get anti-virus software that isn't such a memory hog, such as AVG.--Dont expect stellar performance running Vista on a laptop with that cpu and 1GB of ram. That's basically an XP machine. I have a laptop with a 1.2 celeron in it and I'm used to it taking its time to boot. Little cpus, especially celerons with their tiny caches, take a long time to boot.

The answer to this question is simple. You need a better computer/laptop. 1.86ghz is really slow. My computer was loading Vista at ok speeds of around a min for a full load when i had 1gb ddr ram. i just recently upgraded to 2gb and its alot faster the ram upgrade can help you but that processor speed is really hurting you. I suggest just getting XP and using that it'd run alot smoother.

2 mins is not overly slow for that speed processor. Apart from Windows, HP likes to load up lots of HP stuff as well. Stop programs you dont use all the time from booting with Windows.

Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some regsitry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".
Everytime you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Regisry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically! It even can speed up your computer by 300% or more!

The hard drive work-load could be antivirus scanning, indexing, or whatever other programs launch at start-up.
