x/4 - y/3 = 1
(3x - 4y)/12 = 1
3x - 4y - 12 = 0 (This is the standard form)

It is a linear equation. The standard form is y = ax + b.

multiply through by 3 to get

(3/4)x - y = 3

y = (3/4)x - 3

a = 3/4, b = -3

Edit: y = mx+b is slope intercept form, not standard form.
