You multiply them using the FOIL (First, Outer, Inner, Last) method:

(y + 5)(y + 3)

First terms in each parentheses should be multiplied:
y * y = y²

Then the "outer" terms:
y * 3 = 3y

Then the "inner" terms:
5 * y = 5y

Then the last terms:
5 * 3 = 15

Now just add these together:
y² + 3y + 5y + 15

The y terms can be combined for your final answer:
y² + 8y + 15

This is the reverse operation to factoring.

(y+5)(Y+3) is the same as y(y+3) + 5(y+3) when you expand
multiplying you get (y^2 +3y) + (5y + 15)
remove the brackets to get y^2 + 3y + 5y +15 = Y^2 + 8y + 15

(y+5)(y+3)

= y*y + 3*y + 5*y + 5*3

= y^2 + 3y + 5y +15

= y^2 + 8y + 15

(y+5)(y+3)
= y(y+3) + 5(y+3)
= y^2 + 3y + 5y + 15
= y^2 + 8y + 15

one word! FOIL
first, inner, outer, lasts
(y+5)(y+3)
firsts: y x y = y^2
inners: 5 x y = 5y
outers: 3 x y = 3y
lasts: 5 x 3 = 15

therefore equation is y^2 + 5y + 3y + 15
or y^2 + 8y + 15

well first to make your life easy begin with two of those three binomials. use the (x+2)(x-2) first. when you multiply it you get x^2 - 4. there is no middle number because the two's are positive and negative so they cancel out in the middle. now take the x^2 - 4 and multiply it by (x-1). you get x^3 -x^2 -4x +4. Now just multiply that by 3, so you should get, 3x^3 -3x^2 -12x +12. and thats your answer.
