The problem is: divorce is the easy way out now.
If it's not working - get out.
I don't agree with that philosophy - but that's how society thinks.

If people would take longer to get to know each other and not ignore red flags (like tempers, spend thrifts, etc), they might do better. Problem today is when someone gets their feelings hurt, they run and call it quits rather than sit down and work them out like adults.
I also think too many marry too young because they haven't had a chance to really grow up and take on and learn much about responsibility and yet they want to set up housekeeping when they don't have a clue how to keep house and then they have children when they are children themselves.
I have family and friends who have been married for 20 and 30 some years so it does happen but it takes committment, communication and working together instead of against each other all the time. You can't think about yourself and what you want, you need to do things to make your spouse happy and then you reap happiness, too.
If both were to do that and treat each other with love and respect, there would be fewer divorces but people who are self-centered and immature never quite get a handle on that and some are in their 20s, 30s and 40s and still act like children, having a temper tantrum when things don't go their way.

yes they can last. but the problem is when things get a little complicated people just don't want to deal with there problems. so they think there is always gonna be someone else that will give me what i want. if they wont then ill go find someone else.
so every once in a while you will find a good couple who is willing so sacrifice to make each other happy. thats what make a good marriage

Marriage is hard work! Also, many people RUSH into it, as if the world is gonna end.
Also, people get bored quickly. Kinda like with a car....
when you first buy it you are all excited. Then after a while of use, it gets old and you wanna trade it in.
Marriage is good if you plan on having kids, if not....
STAY SINGLE!!!!!!!!

If people would try harder & stop giving up at the first sign of trouble!! They don't know how to stay together anymore. There parents and there parents have all gotten divorced so they don't know how to stay married or what it's really all about. Or even care anymore! It's become just another word.

i believe it can if you go into it with the idea that it's till death parts you. with that said, both should be committed full hartedly or it want work. both must learn and respect each other's good and bad ,once you exept these faults there should be nothing standing in your way.also understand marriage is'nt a walk in the park, must continue to work at it. so, in my humble opinio, marriage canlast, along time if you allow it.

Marriage is a transient social phenomenon that must pass as new cultures of freedom and sanctity for ones own person become the new existential forms of social survival.
So, its demise has come. And that opens another promise for the next phase of human socialism.

The truth is, no one really values the real meaning of marriage anymore especially here in America. Nothing is permanent, even especially marriage.

Sure marriages can last but you must first be right for the person that you marry and he must be right for you. Marriage is a commitment, which means you must put your all into it.
