First of all, I'm giving you a thumbs up for the question. Last night drove me Nuts. I'm still wondering what Hiro's past behavior is doing to the future; does it impact NYC; remember, Hiro came and told Peter to save the cheerleader, etc., but if he got stuck back there and couldn't get back to tell Peter - get the picture? The whole time travel thing can really wreck your mind. It's obvious that what happened to NYC wasn't a nuclear explosion, just abandonment, so it could be the virus that killed Mohinder's sister. But that would mean that more people are developing the evoluationary gene because at this point (today) only people with the gene catch the virus. And if that's so, how does it happen. Guess I don't have many answers, just more questions. I do think we're going to hear from Matt's dad again - that man is truly scary. I thought Mama P. was scary, she's probably scared of him. But now I don't think he was the one who tried to beat her in the interrogation room; I think he put the idea in her mind and she thought she was being attacked. We've seen what he did to Nathan and Matt (and frankly, that took me a few minutes to figure out, that they were actually fighting each other). I'm more worried about HRG because he's not playing this time. And I don't trust that guy, Bob. He's just too sincere, like a politician. When someone that sincere shakes my hand, I immediately check my purse to see what they stole. Re: Sylar, Maya and Alejandro, I think that Alejandro's going to probably save Maya from Sylar, he'll go underground again; but I still think she's pivotal in getting rid of Molly's Nightmare Man, because the Healer lady told her she had something in her that could kill the devil, and if someone worse than Sylar isn't the devil, I don't know who is.
Hey!! I just found this on Wikipedia:
Virus
At the end of Season 1, a virus is revealed that targets those with powers. It is neurological and interferes with the user's powers. The Company has hired Mohinder Suresh to find a cure. Currently, the antibodies in his blood are the only known cure. Starting with episode 7, the virus becomes the central plot element to the second season. After Peter and Caitlin are taken into the future (2008), they find that 93% of the world's population has been wiped out by the mysterious virus.

wow you got some big chunkie answers here...
Well i'll answer you questions:
I think its the Shanti Virus (the virus which affected molly and the Haitian), the company have something to do with this. They have been experimenting the viruses and the virus mutated and then affect the general population.
Since Mohinder is the only cure for the original virus, there might be NO cure for the mutated virus...Henceforth the 93% of population died.
And well....there is a theory that things would have been much better if the bomb did happen. If NYC explode, Molly would have been dead and the virus won't be spreading. So save the cheerleader, save the world? Maybe not

First off, I want to say, I LOVE HEROES! Each weeks cliff hanger drives me crazy! I will be honest with you, this season has me stumped! I have no clue where they are going!! Last season I had theories for everybody and everthing and i was on all of those heroes theory websites like some kind of Heroes Junkie! But I did want to comment on HIPHOP's answer, I thought it was a really good answer and she made very good observations. Like, I don't think that it is the virus that molly and the haitain had, because like she stated, because thus far it only effects people with powers. But it does have to be something big inorder to knock out 93% of the population.
Next, Hiro is driving me nuts!! I keep yelling at my TV, "Go back Hiro, Go back before you mess everything up!!" Now, my boyfriends theory is that by the end of the series, everything will get messed up and everybody will die, but Hiro will go back in time and correct it as if none of this ever happened!! who knows!?!? All i know is Hiro better get out of there asap before he causes a rift!
I wonder if Sylar would get his powers back, but it seems like he would, cuz what kind of bad guy would he be if he didn't have the powers! He wouldn't be much of a threat other than he is evil and has no conscience!!!
Parkman's father scares the crap out of me!! If he can get into someones mind, then he can completely control you to the point your mind believes this is happening, you are in the palm of his hand. that is scary! I think he is part of the reason for new york being evacuated, but i am not sure why.
I, for sure, do not trust the guy that Mohinder is working for and for sure I don't trust, HRG, they scare me! we know that both are capable of dangerous things and both are manipulative!!!
well theres my two cents about it all. I guess we will know more through out the season!!
