Supposedly you sneak up on a cow while she is sleeping and just knock her over. This is a myth. First, cows sleep laying down, Second, they have huge ears and eyes on the side of their head so they would either hear you or see you or smell you coming. Third, an average cow weighs around 1000 lbs. It would be like trying to shove a small car over and if you got help, she would definitely know you were coming. Cows kick very HARD when they are alarmed. You would get your head knocked off. I have seen a cow knocked off her feet by my husband. She was running and he grabbed her tail and jerked on it. It knocked her down long enough to get a rope around her neck and boy was she mad when she got up. That technique is only used as a last ditch effort and shouldn't be attempted by anyone that is not very familiar with cattle. It is very easy to get hurt around livestock.
