I went my entire pregnancy doctor free. Not to say I promote it, but it can be done. My daughter was born perfectly healthy.

If I could do it again, I'd go to the doctor's though. I was clueless and scared and I should have been more informed.

What are you upto? You are 19 weeks pregnant and not told your doctor about it. You are supposed to disclose such important and vital information to the doctor treating you so that he would have prescribed a diabetic medicine to you which would not have done any harm to the baby. Better late than never, you must go immediately to the doctor and tell that you are pregnant and needs a full check up. As a layman, you are not supposed to prescribe your own medicines even if its natural medicines. You friends are right when they say you are crazy. The only way out for you to see the doctor righaway because if you refused to do that its not you own health which is in danger but the baby's too, and you are supposed to protect the baby within you.

If you don't agree with your doctor, see someone else, i.e. a naturopath. Most insurance will cover alternative medicine these days. If you are adequately able to control your blood sugar without additional medication, great. That's what the goal is anyway, right? No sense in doubling the meds if your blood sugar is under control without it. However, you do need to be SURE that's taken care of for the health of your baby. So you definitely should be under the care of someone throughout your pregnancy to make sure your baby is healthy.

If your doctor's philosophy of medicine differs so much from your philosophy of natural health that you are avoiding seeing him, it's time to find another doctor. There are people out there who won't automatically push meds on you when it's not necessary. There are doctors out there who are more open to holistic medicine, you just have to look a little harder. If you are into doing things naturally, going through a certified and reputable midwife might be a good option for you. But you should be monitoring your blood sugar regularly and making sure that, with whatever method you are using, it's well controlled, and you definitely need someone to support you health-wise throughout your pregnancy especially if you have an additional risk factor like diabetes.

OK...here is what I know. 1) Diabetes can not only lead to increased birth weight but can also cause other medical problems for the baby as well. One that I know of for sure is delayed lung development...I know there are others. 2) Natural therapies can help your condition but you need to be monitoring the effectiveness of your natural therapies WITH A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL. 3) If you really want to do this as natural as possible...find a reputable midwife. Midwifes are much more homeopathic...if there is a way to reduce the amount of insulin they will know. If there isn't...than you need to suck it up and take the insulin for the sake of your baby. 4) Amnio's are done between week 20-24. Since you have already missed all the early testing you should get in to get this testing as soon as possible. 5) Being a mom means putting what you feel and what you want second and what your child needs/wants/feels first. Get used to it.

Good Luck...I really hope all goes well for you.

Whoa! Do you understand that a mother having diabetes that is not controlled properly through her pregnancy can cause SEVERE birth defects to the baby? One of my closest friends had diabetes, not gestational, during her pregnancy but it was never diagnosed. He daughter was born with out a bone in her hip and could not move her legs. One top of that her heart did not develope correctly and only had 3 chambers, not 4. At 10 days old they did open heart surgery. There were complications, and she passed away. She later came to find out that these specific birth defects were caused by uncontrolled diabetes.

You knew before you got pregnant that the doctor said you HAD to take extra meds if you got pregnant, but you continued to take the risk and get pregnant. Now you are not only putting YOUR life and your body in danger, but the body and life of your unborn child. This is not a matter of how YOU feel and things being natural, this is a matter of what is HAPPENING! You arent giving your child the best chance because you dont like medications, well, let me tell you, when you are a mother you do alot of things you dont particualarly want to do, but you do these things to keep your child safe, healthy, and happy! PLEASE go to the doctor ASAP and quit being selfish and self centered.

you might not care about yourself enough to take proper care but think about what could happen to your baby. your being selfish and bratty if the only reason you won't go is because you don't have the guts to raise the issue of medication with a doctor. Not exactly a great start to parenthood if you deliberately put your child at risk.

You have to wake up and realise you have a condition that requires medication in order to SURVIVE you twit. Didn't you know that diabetic mothers can have enormous babies that usually require extra medication and intervention later on if they don't get treatment earlier. You're willing to put up with having no medicine now and three times as much when it comes time to deliver?? Doens't make sense to me.

I couldn't imagine putting mine and my childs life at risk if there was an easy way to prevent it. And afterall its only temporary. After pregnancy you can go back to whatever natural method you want.

If you care about the baby you are carrying, you should see an obstetrician right away. Let her know how you feel about meds, and let her explain how the pregnancy is affecting both you and your baby.

But remember, if you are taking insulin, you are just replacing what your body is not producing. You are NOT taking a drug.

You need to find out what your diabetes is doing to your baby as it is maturing. Wouldn't you hate to know that your decision caused some kind of harm to it?

Here's a little info for those with type 2 and type1 diabetes

Make the right decision for the one who can't speak....it's about the baby. A few inconveniences like extra medicine is worth it for a healthy, happy baby. If you want to try natural, herbal medicines, then include your doctor in that information as well. There are some that are not good to take while your pregnant. Tell your doctor immediately.

I belive in being as natural as possible when it comes to medicine, pregnancy, and birth. That being said it would be not only in your best interest to see a doctor, but all your baby's. If you're diabetic that can cause some issues in a pregnancy that need to be addressed. What are your reasons for not seeing a doctor?
I saw a midwife during my pregnacy and continue to see her for women's health issues. If you're looking for a more natural approach a midwife is the way to go in my opinion, but for your baby's sake you really should seek medical advice.

you are suppose to see your doctor and talk about ways you can bring a healthy baby into this world. If you are sick and ill taking care of yourself what do you have in store for your baby? those shots were for the baby not you, if you have to take medicine for the rest of your life then take it.Because if you are diabetic you don't have a natural life. nor will your baby. 19 weeks, is close and there is the chance that your baby could also be born with diabetes. you need to get to your doctor fast so that he/she can start taking care of your baby. shame on you for going this long without the proper care for yourself and your baby. I pray all goes well with you.

You need to go to the doctor asap. Your baby and you both need prenatal care and you being a diabetic makes it even more important that you see a doctor since problems can arise from that in both mother and baby in pregnancy. Please don't wait any longer. You need proper medical care and at 19 weeks you have already waited to long for some of the tests they do in the very beginning.
