I can't fall asleep because I dread going to work in a few hours. I hate the environment I work in.

Get your body so tired that you would HAVE to sleep.
Tell yourself that you need your strength, try to ignore whatever mess you are going into, and work your way through it.
Meanwhile, start job-hunting, online.

Look, if you're only in it for the pay, the least you can do is the best you can while in that situation.
Leave no-one any room or chance to criticise you for poor work quality.

If you do not rest, you'll have neither strength nor concentration to focus.

Work out, DO SOMETHING, shadow-box, imagine all the twits who make your day hell, and punch them.

Then shower, sleep, dress, and go confidently.
While going to work, try to distance your mind from them, and look at them from the outside.

What makes your environment bad for you?
Is it their impression on you that is changing the way you see them?
Don't give anyone or anything that much power over you.
Take control of yourself.

Good luck.

There is a whole big world outside their space, and you always have the choice to be elsewhere.
You just have to bear with them while you prepare the ground for your choice.

It's all in your hands.

I'm out of work now, and wiaitng for my first unemployment check and I cannot sleep at all, mostly around 5AM and then only for a few hours; this has been going on for the past two weeks. I pray I get a job soon. I tried over the counter sleeping pills and I fall asleep for a few hours then am wide awake again. I know when I get a job this will resolve but it is hell now.

Stop worrying about being late, sleep without worries, if you hate the environment you are working with, how about changing workplace or career? If you still worry thats why you can't sleep, try some soothing music, and a glass of milk to make you sleepy.

worried? are you worried about going into work or is it just dread? Two very different things. You may want to think about getting another job if it is impacting you that greatly.

As for sleep....relax for one. Occasionally I might take some benedryl. Helps with sleep.

Listen to relaxing music and let it drift you away or you can read for awhile. Those usually help me when my head won't shut up.

Meditate. If you don't know how, do a search or go to your local book store.
