No that is not normal. Take him to the doctors or at least call them.
You can always take one cotton ball at a time, run it through warm water, not cold, and rub his eye from the start closest to his nose and with one gentle swipe rub across his eye out toward his ear. you want to do this when his eye is closed.
This is only to clean out the yellow stuff and help confort him.
Never use the same cotton ball twice.
One warm cotton ball
One gentle swipe from inside of nose area out.
And trash it. do this several times in each eye until you clean the eye out. do not place any pressure on his eyes. and only use warm water.
please contact his dr.
Good luck

My son was the same way when he was born. I did not even notice it until he was 5 days old then when I looked back at his pics I could see that eye was kind of red. I freaked out bc yellow stuff was coming out so much and drying. I took him to the ER and they have me some medicine and it healed up after just a week or so and it never came back thank GOD he is 3 months old now. His dr the next day said it could have been a clugged tear duct which is VERY commom I later found out with newborns or pinkeye which is not so common but they will have to take a test of the gunk. No matter what though you do need to get him into the dr first thing tomorrow bc eye problems are always serious and when he wakes up it will be hard to open his eye. I just had to clean it with warm water every few and you will even after he sees the dr.

Why haven't you taken your baby to the doctor yet? It's most likely conjunctivitis (an infection) or a blocked tear duct. Baby's are prone to getting sticky eyes as their tear ducts are quite narrow. My second child had this at birth and I was told by the pediatrician to wipe the baby's eye with boiled cooled water or saline solution as often as required to prevent an infection. The baby's eye is wiped outwards so all the gunk is removed away from the corners of the eye. The problem disappeared by the time she was 3mths old.

This happened to my daughter also. She was newborn when it first happened. The doctor gave me drops and told me it was because her tear ducts were clogged or not working yet. I don't think it was contagious. My daughter is 3 years old now and everytime she gets a runny nose she will get yellow stuff in her eyes a couple of days after. It must all be connected somehow. The doctor said she should grow out of it. If I leave it alone it does go away in afew days by itself. The eyedrops just make it go away faster. He will be fine.

My daughter had the same problem, it's because their tear ducts don't work yet. I was told to wipe them with cotton wool balls (don't use the same one on the other eye) in a bit on warm salty water (by my Dr and child health nurse) in a few days it cleared up. She was nearly 3 weeks old when it disappeared and she is 16 weeks old now and doesn't have a problem. If you are worried ask your Dr or child health nurse and see what they say

your son has conjunctivitis which is contagious. Its easliy fixed mind you. pay a visit to your doctor or chemist for some cream/eye drops and wipe any gunk away with a cotton bud and some cool boiled water or breastmilk so as not to spread the infection. (one wipe one cotton bud, next wipe over new cotton bud) Be very sure to wash your hands all the time so as not to spread it to yourself or the rest of the family.
Congratulations by the way!
best of luck!

Well my daughter had that when she was born it coul d either be conjunctivitis or that your baby has blocked tear ducks. Fortuantely for my daughter she had block tear ducks there is no medication for it but it goes away as they get about two to three months. You should go see your doctor just to make sure its not worst but do aks the doctor about blocked tear ducks. Make sure you keep the eye clean as you see the build up

sounds like conjunktivitis (don't know the spelling on that one)
my daughter had it, it will make his eye feel gritty, like there is sand in it. I was told to either wipe with breast milk or warm salty water very regularly.
also if he has it in only one eye you should make sure he sleeps on that side so it does not run into his good eye, its very contagious.
see a doctor if it wont go away after a week or so of rinsing and wiping.

sleep or crusties. The plica semilunaris is the “crusty” factory. It secretes a sticky mass that collects any foreign materials such as dust or pollen. All this trash is surrounded by the sticky **** so that it does not scratch the sensitive cornea in your eye. Once the garbage is collected, the plica semilunaris “escorts” it out of the eye.

No! this sounds like conjunctivitis. Im not a doctor but based on what you have described it sounds like it. Squirting some breast milk on his eye is one way to help it heal but this would depend on how bad it is. Seek your doctors advice as soon as you can.
