You know, the lush, quietly haunting classic rock song that has a bit of a sinking mood? I don't think I'm describing it right....
Well, what are some songs similar to it? I'm in one of the moods.

Similar to Led Zeppelin's Ten Years Gone and Rolling Stones' Memory Motel?

Not obvious ones.... more obscure ones. Thanks.

Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5JkHBC5lDs

Leonard Cohen - Who By Fire, The Stranger Song

The Yardbirds - Still I'm Sad

The Byrds - He Was A Friend Of Mine

Janis Joplin - A Woman Left Lonely, Maybe

Mick Jagger - Blind Leading The Blind

The Dire Straits one fits your mood best...for some reason, I can't think right now. So, that's all I got for now!

Soldier of Fortune is fantastic, and Slyflights mention of Bloodrocks 'Breach of Lease' is a great tune form their 3rd album. It's tough to find on vinyl or CD these days. The label out of New York that reissued the CD back in the late 80's (One Way Records) no longer exists, and I don't think anyone else has reissued it. But here are some other songs that evoke the same type of emotion from me whenever I hear them. Most of these bands / songs are from the early 70's, and are fairly well known to the seasoned listener:

Gravy Train - Staircase to the Day
Walter Rossi - Soldiers in the Night
Manfred Manns Earthband - One Way Glass
Spirit - When I Touch You
Ursa Major - In My Darkest Hour
Armageddon - Silver Tight Rope
Stone the Crows - Friend
Audience - Your Not Smiling
Babe Ruth - The Runnaways
Piblokto - Thousands on a Raft
Camel - Never Let Go
Foot in Coldwater - Coming is Love
Wishbone Ash - Sometime World
Caravan - Winter Wine
Hookfoot - Mystic Lady
Captain Beyond - Bright Blue Tango
Focus - La Cathedrale De Strasbourg
Frost - Black as Night
Atomic Rooster - Black Snake
Frumpy - How the Gypsy Was Born
Grin - Sad Letter
Procol Harum - About to Die
Renaissance - Can You Understand
Jericho - Justin and Nova

If you can find it, Bloodrock's "Breach of lease" has THE most haunting keyboard ever recorded! And a killer lead guitar over the "middle 8".
