Recently I have been having issues starting my car and car stalls while driving, The symptoms occur during hot weather or hot car interior.

I brought it into a repair facility and had a costly Distributor, ignition wires, spark plug replacement. The problem came back a day later, where the shop changed my fuel pump at no charge. Today, the problem came back. I went home and did some online research and found out that there was a recall on my honda accord ignition switch that began in 2002. Is it too late to bring it in?

When a manufacturer issues a recall on a vehicle there is no limit on the time or mileage on the vehicle after which the recall is no longer provided for. Any Honda dealer can do the recall free of charge.

It will take them less than one minute to check for the applicability of the recall to your vehicle by using the Honda on-line dealer network.

The usual symptom of a bad ignition switch is that the car cuts out when driving on the freeway then starts right back up after you coast to the side and go to restart it. Less common is that the car will shut off after you start it unless you hold the key in the 'start' position.

the failure rate on the igntion switch is high. If you had gone to a Honda dealer first you may have saved a ton of money on 'guesses' as this is an extremely well know problem with an easily identifiable solution.

hope that answers your question

Not to late, I just had my 1998 Accord ignition switch replaced not too long ago, I did bring a copy of the recall just in case they did not want to "look" it up. Most likely they will have to order the part and you will have to come back later and drop the car for a couple of hours, it took them around 2 for me including an oil change. If you own a 4cyl also look up a recall on the "throttle body bleed screw". This was also a recall for these cars, the dealership told me about it and changed it for me at the same time as the ignition switch.

My car would "stall" or die while driving as well. The metal contacts in the ignition wear out and the key will end up in the accessory position. If you have keys on your key chain it is more prone to do it. Its pretty sketchy having your car turn off at 70mph.
Good luck!

hey, i got a 2000 LX sedan with manual transmission. it was like at 54,000 miles when i got it USED from the dealer in the beginning of 2004. it now has 115,000 miles. only major expensive i've done with it was changing the timing belt, but that was because it was more of a maintenence thing due at like 100k i think. if you go for an older car, my advice to you is to look for one with low miles. the miles really determine the age/usage of the car. if you find your 97, cool. but don't get a 97 accord with 177k miles on it. i'm 24 years old now. i was 19-20 when i was looking for my accord. took me about 6-8 months to find it cuz i was picky, but i finally got it. BE PATIENT. always remember honda made more than one 97 accord, so don't let the seller make you feel like his car is a rare diamond. good luck!
