roll their little 2-3 month old babies up to your door in their strollers and say trick-or-treat? Seriously, their babies have no teeth and aren't actually eating the candy themselves. Do you give it to them anyway? No, I'm not mean, just settling a house debate on this craziness that some women pull.

I don't know Drewx...you're throwing a wrench in my debate...I think they use their poor little kids for free loot. Most of these little buggers last year were fast asleep in their strollers....no costume. That's cheap.

Oh man, Jeanne B...now I feel petty...LOL, not. But you are right...I shouldn't be such a tightwad with the candy...it's just the principle of the whole cheap matter here. I'm so laughing at myself right now.

It's a dilemma for some of us. The last thing we need is the candy, but the toddlers are still small enough to wear the costume of our choice! But why put it on them if they just stay home?

We have a kid 16 months old who we decided just doesn't need to trick-or-treat. I'll put her hobbit costume on her and take photos.

Just so you see that some parents do get it. I pictured myself walking up to a house with the toddler as she held a bucket of candy she's too little to eat and couldn't face it.

GoodJuJu, not everyone is as mature as the rest of us...
I know lots of people who plan large parties for their babies' first or second birthdays. Now you know those kids don't remember their parties. That's the mom's way of getting gifts for the kids that saves them money on clothes, toys, etc. I just don't attend, and I say nothing to the parents.

I've had those young mom's bringing the stroller kid by -neither in costume, not a smile, nothing. I give one piece of candy, and go on to the next one. One thing I do for parents of little ones in costume is give them a piece of candy, too. I like to keep adult sized candy for them, though. Some parents are embarrassed to take it, but I remind them of how much we ALL like candy so they feel better about it.

Maybe some of the stroller moms will see this and grow up a bit. And maybe the rest of us can call on the little child that is still inside and give stroller moms a smile, anyway.

I see nothing wrong with it. They like to show their little ones off to people. Does it really hurt you to give a piece of candy to a baby that can't eat it? I understand your reasoning but let the older kids eat it or the parent. I wouldn't mind. When my kids were babies with no teeth.......they could still lick a lollipop.

i think it's more about having their baby admired then getting candy. if you know this is going to happen to you this year, purchase a few packs of baby nipples/pacifiers or something along those lines and hand those out (in packaging so they don't think you're trying to poison their kid). the money you put out for them (you only need a few) is worth those few seconds of confusion on their faces when you hand it over smiling politely. it's not like you're giving something they have no use for, it's just not what they expected, which is hilarious.

i tend to agree, the baby can't eat the stuff, so why push the issue with getting the candy in the first place, if they are that hungry they need to go to the store and buy a big bag for themselves

A couple years ago, my entire school system (junior college included) got hyper-vigilant about STD's and unplanned pregnancy. They started giving out condoms by the handful, no joke.
I kept all my unused condoms (don't ask), and will be giving them to the people who come to my door Wednesday night who are obviously too old to be trick or treating. Cynical, but man alive will I laugh hard if I get one of the stroller moms!

I think it has more to do with dressing the baby up and taking them out than anything else. The candy is just a bonus. Mostly they just want people to ooh and aah over their baby. It would be ok with me.
