The Pill is 92-99.7% effective as birth control. It does not protect against reproductive tract infections, including HIV/AIDS

Yes, they are very effective. There is usually a little folded up piece of paper that comes with each pack. That has all of the information about how effective they are. It will probably say they are something like 98 or 99% effective, which means that out of 100 women taking the pill, one or two of them will get pregnant within one year while on the pill. That's a couple of unlucky (or lucky?) women, but not very many women out of 100.

From scientific studies where individuals have been highly motivated to comply, the pregnancy rate for the pills is 0.1% or 1 per 1000. Overall, however, the pregnancy rate in actual use is 3% or 30 per 1000. Nothing 100%.

BCPs are 98% to 99% effective for women who take the pills every day as directed. Missing/skipping tablets and some side effects a woman might experience such as nausea, vomitting, diarrea and even taking antibiotics can decrease effectiveness.

Usually all birth control pills come with detailed instructions on late or missed pills, side effects etc.

Remember, birth control pills do not offer any protection against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

If you have any concerns I would recommend you discuss them with your doctor/gyno as they will be able to answer all your questions.

Good luck :)

LOL I KNOW its like you take them and it still doesn't feel safe! but they say its pretty damn effective, WHEN taken correctly..
just make sure you keep on folllowing the directions, same time everyday check with doctor if you're gonna be taking other meds etc.. u know the drill..

Also- always a good idea to use condoms as a backup. there are too many pill babies and using condoms decreases the risk even more!

it sucks though that theres no 100% guarantee.. :(

That depends on the person the type of pill their taking and if the person remembers to take it everyday, all else aside about 90-95% effective.

Most birth control pills are 97-99% effective. Nothing is 100%.. other then not having sex.

The pill is NOT 100% affective. It is reported to be 99% affective if taken correctly. You may want to also use a spermicidal foam or condom to be 100% safe. Then again, what is really 100% safe?
