Am considering if I should travel by bus to minimise the travel costs. How will go by bus cost ? If to fly, what web can I book for discounted airnewzealand domestic flights ? Where can I look up the price for these tickets ? Can I ask my travel agent to go through the booking for me from Hong Kong ?

Don't bus if you really have too.

I suggest twice a day check out the site (make sure you refresh your browser too)
http://www.grabaseat.co.nz - you will get deals between $1 - $59 airfare. The site changes so much, but lets you know how many seats left at a particular price - bookmark it now, I've used it heaps!!!

For example they have got there today Christchurch to Invercargill for $49.

Try and do everything online yourself to save money - cut out the 'middleman' - it's very easy.

It is a 6 hour journey by road and only one by air.

If you take the bus you will get to see more of the country and save yourself some money.

But if time is an issue then I would fly. You can find flights on Air New Zealand....some starting as low as NZ$110 to as much as $300 one way.

I think you should take a bus, the scenery south of Christchurch is pretty awesome.
Check out nakedbus.com it has discount bus fares.
