The ratings were tanking for the show...plus NBC's been rather quick to get out of airing soaps since the late Eighties (and giving the airtime back to its affiliates). NBC had been the cellar-dweller in daytime since the early Eighties and this reflected in how they've been shedding its daytime scedule over the last 20-odd years.
"Coastal Dreams" seems to be an online-only thing at present.

First Passions was not cancelled. Well, it was cancelled from NBC but picked up by Direct Tv. So it is still out there if you have direct tv or you can pay...I think it is $19 a month to watch it online at nbc.com. (this is new info for many Passions fans, I just found out this info a week ago.)
NBC has been moving out of the soap genre for a while now. I was actually shocked when Passions was started, since they had just cancelled another soap that I miss still, Another World. Days of Our Lives is up for contract renewal in 2009, There is huge spectulation that NBC will not pick it up again. Although it is one of the most "fan" popular soaps, it is also lowest in the Neilsen ratings taking over its previous lowest rating show of ...You guessed it.. Passions.
I had read, and to be honest I dont remember for sure where, that NBC sees the internet as the future of certain types of shows one of them being a soap. As for Coastal Dreams, this is the first I have heard of it, but 3 minutes??? How can anyone be expected to become emotionally involved in a show that is 3 minutes??? It must have lousy (or real life ha ha) sex scenes!! LOL
Hope this helps.

NBC has been moving out of the daytime soap market for some time. When they cancelled As the World Turns, everyone thought they were crazy then. Now, they've cancelled Passions so they could put on an extra hour of The Today Show. Except for Chuck and Heroes, I don't even watch NBC anymore because they have no respect for viewers, only the "suits" at network headquarters.

Passions was cancelled because the Today show added an extra hour so they bumped every show up. Coastal dreams is stupid & you can't watch it unless you have a computer.

passions moved to direct tv only!! that was a horrible move in my book! i don't think a lot of people would pay top dollar to get direct tv to watch one show. pul-eeze!
i guess nbc feels soaps are not profitable for them so they get rid of them!

Passion is now on DirecTV. Maybe they are testing sound like a smart idea. Low ratings. It was but I think they wanted rating like Days of our lives and that's was not going to happen over night but they got tired and axed it. ^_^ DJ
