The self or i is not my body, he knower is not my body and the feeling self is also not my body. It is wrong to think that what ever happpens to the body also happens to the self.

Ramana Maharshi, who lived in the second half of 20th century had cancer inhis hand. he used to say, that 'that poor thing, the hand is in pain!'. ( not he!)

for the Western Philosophy that has its origin in Greek Philosoophy, thre is a dualism between mind and body. This is not so in Indian Philosophy.
