English Reformation (about 1530) was when king Henry XIII of England petitioned the Catholic Pope Clement VII for permission to divorce his wife, which was forbidden in the Catholic Church, and was refused. Henry then proceeded to break from the Catholic Church and formed the Church of England.

Protestant reformation took place shortly before the English Reformation, and it said to have begun when when Martin Luther nailed the 95 Thesis, a list of 95 problems he wanted reformed with the Catholic Church to the Cathedral doors at Wittenberg, though his initial goal was not to break away from the church, only have it reformed. The protestants eventually broke off from the Catholic Church after the Pope refused to fix any of Luther's problems. Eventually after 100 years or so at the Peace of Westphalia, Protestantism was recognized by the Catholic Church, although it had existed since the late 1400's.

The Protestant Reformation In Germany

The big difference was the fact that Henry VIII broke from the Church in Rome because the Pope refused to recognize his divorce from Catherine so that he could marry again. Henry VIII was motivated by personal reasons and by making himself the head of the Church in England he could plunder the monasteries. Henry VIII still thought of himself as a good Catholic but he no longer recognized the authority of the Pope. So many Catholic practicises survived in the Anglican Church. This led to problems a little later when the "Puritans" wanted to rid the Church of England by getting rid of what they called "Romanism" and images like the Virgin Mary and stained glass. By the way the Protestant Reformation that started in Germany was largely motivated by German nationalism, the desire to end the sale of "indulgences" and the sending of German money to Italy to build churches.

puritans have been a particular branch of christians in england (and scotland, and so forth) who had to purify the church of england. (as a result the call!) they did no longer consider each and every little thing the church grew to become into doing, yet believed that finally it grew to become into stable. The separatists, regardless of if, believed the church of england to be basically incorrect and undesirable. They had to cut up from the church of england. (back, as a result the call...) Pilgrims are people who make a experience for a non secular objective. the two puritans and separatists could be/each and every now and then have been pilgrims. desire that enables! EDIT --- the guy above me is amazingly incorrect. Puritans based lots of the settlements in Massachusetts - consisting of Salem and Plymouth.
