One industry I haven't seen posted is Gold Mining. There is still a lot of that going on, both recreational and commercial.

Tourism is a very large industry in Alaska. Not as many people travel to Alaska as Florida, but the cruise ships and RV's do send many tourists to Alaska.

While watching float planes take-off from Lake Hood last year, I also saw many 747's land & take-off from their airport. Many of these planes carry tourist from Asia and Europe. While in Fairbanks you will be closer to Japan and London than Florida.

Logging is another industry that is monitored carefully. It would take a long time to clear cut all the Alaskan forests, who would want to see that.

Oil is their largest industry, it supplies every resident with a token yearly dividend. The alaskas have provide for income when the oil supply runs out by investing the royalties.

As another posted said, fishing a a very large industry, both recreational and commercial. The recreational fishing is mostly limited to the yearly runs of Salmon. Charter fishing for fish such as the Halibut, I classify as either recreational &/or tourism.

Below each comment are web sites to back up what I have experianced and researches.
Farming is a industry that is not all that large. When we pulled into Tok, Alaska, one of the first towns you see when driving into Alaska, we purchased tomatoes for $0.39 per pound comparied to $2+ in the lower 48. This was in early May of '06. Many fruits and veggies are grown in green houses for early consumption.
