direct quote from a Jay-z interview on Hot97...this interview got some dust on it (been out a couple of months) but nobody talked about it on here, so i figured i'd bring it up.. what do yall think about Jigga's statements? basically he's calling himself the best ever, and the only people *he feels are contendin wit him for that are Biggie and Tupac....
so two questions, one already i said; do you agree with his statement?
and two, whether u agree or disagree with that statement, do you agree with this; That a strong case could be put up for Jay-z to be the greatest to ever touch the mic? <<< if u think so, feel free to do so
and if u wanna hear this interview, i think you can check out the "radio interviews" section of Hot 97's website...they usually keep the ones wit more prominent rappers

I think that he can stand by that statement...For him to say it...In his eyes that might be true...He is very successful at what he is doing...He still has the heart of the streets and the mainstream...He has to me at least two classic album...sry Yay I disagree that the Black Album was similar to Blueprint...lol He's lyrically better then Pac...and Only better then Big becuz he's been jn the game longer(since 88-89) Big's death pretty much brought out his career.
As far as the greatest ever to touch the mic...No...Its kinda hard to judge with hip hop music...its a really critical genre...Its not like singing...You have to have a lot of skills to be consider a great or even the greatest..In hip hop to me there will always be somebody to come along after this person...I would put him up there with the greats of hip hop...But when he's done there will be another to step up.As for his ERA he has shown consistancy to make this claim.

ok umm 1st answer is NO i dont agree with his statement because others like Rakim, KRS, Big Daddy Kane are competing or maybe already better. IMO Tupac and Biggie AND Nas are better than Jay. Jay came close in 8 years to doin what Biggie did in 2...so Biggie is deff. better.
Yes I do agree with ur 2nd question...a strong case could be put up like how he mightve [IMO not] beat Nas in the war...which could possibly make him better than Nas...and Jay-Z had about 4 Classics and other 4 mic calabor[spelling] albums [Reasonable Doubt, Black Album, Blueprint Vol 1...IMO] Reasonable Doubt IMO is better than Illmatic, which Illmatic can be considered by sum da best album all-time, but also IMO at da same time I think Nas was better overall..but sum people may see it the other way around

Jay startin' 2 have a big ego. i don't agree with Jay. Saying he's the best to ever do it. He's good but I mean in my opinion he only had one classic album which is Reasonable Doubt. Blueprint is on the same level as Black Album, & Black Album is on the same level as in My lifetime Vol. 1. Those three are excellent albums but not classics in my opinion. He's better than many though but I think there are a few who put out better work than him. Jay maybe a bigger & more popular emcee than plenty. But if you put Jay against Scarface in an album battle Scarface has a better catalog. Common even put in better work than Jay. & don't get me started with Nas or Rakim....
But him saying it is quite agruable. i'm sure plenty of people wouldn't agree with me.
But Jay can say that, I just don't agree with that.
Now someone who hasn't even put out a classic song or album & him saying he's the greatest alive no agrument there. Not 2 mention names.

Damn, Jay-Z is my fav, but he probably should've made this comment around the time the Black Album came out and it would've been a more credible statement because he lost a lot of that top notch notoriety after Kingdom Come disappointed so many ppl...i dunno Jay.
But, I do stand behind this statement because I think he's gonna make a comeback on American Gangster, so I think he is, (was), the best ever overall, (before Kingdom Come...)

I don't completely agree.
Jay-Z is my favourite rapper but there are still acouple rappers almost or just as talented
Jay seems to be getting alittle lazy.. AND arrogant... its not a good look for him
can't forget about NAS & Rakim...
he aint good enough to let his guard down.. thats for damn sure.
