80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

The book says "42."
I can go along with that... I sure don't know another answer that covers so much about life. In other words, calm down and I guess you'll see. Don't worry so much, okay?
Now I'm mumbling around to myself: 'The meaning of life?!!??' --so excuse me... here I go on to something else, or rather back to
42.

The meaning of life. That is a big and grand question.

Did you ever get a present from someone you loved? Say your parents, or your brother or sister, or someone else in your family, or a friend?

Really, they gave that present to you because it meant friendship and love.

That is the meaning of life.

To give the best and good part of yourself to those around you. For when we do good for others gives them a sense of belonging; of meaning; of hope.

Whenever I lose sense of belonging or meaning in life and feel "invisible" or like a "shadow on the wall", I become a real meaningful person, when I help someone else out, who needs my help.

The only concrete and undebatable answer I could come up with is to survive and to ensure survival for both self, community and the human race as a whole.

All else just produces arguments and a waste of time.

To make the world a better place than when you got here so that the next generation can prosper also. To help your fellow man/woman so that they can lead a life as good and secure as possible. This is why people aren't put on this earth alone. So that we can work as a team and create instead of destroying.

The meaning of life is to go through the pain and torture of it and at the end figure out that all the bullshit you went through was what you did or accomplished in it.

If you truly want the meaning of life, I can tell you how to find it.

"It is witten in the wind, kept inside your heart, and seen by everyone."

There is only one condition to obtaining and understanding the meaning.
You must learn how to read the words.

Happy Hunting!

What? The 10,000 or so other answers to this question did not satisfy you? What make you think anyone of us can do it, if 10,000 before us could not?
