Lots of things are legal, but that doesn't mean that they should be allowed to be used or performed anywhere at anytime. Alcohol affects the way that the brain works and responds to stimuli and being allowed to drink at work would have a great affect on productivity.

Smoking is legal too but you can't smoke at work.
What would you suggest as the limit of drinks that would be acceptable at work? Should a salesman or truck driver be allowed to drink on their jobs?
If I were to drink at work I wouldn't have a job for long. I would either fall asleep, or call up a customer and tell him/her off.

It makes sense, but no. It would affect your job performance. Drinking a Diet Coke doesn't have that effect. It would be like the company paying you to get hammered... then you wouldn't be able to do what they ARE paying you for. Even if you just drank in moderation, there's always somebody who won't know when enough is enough.

We should be able to drink at work. But see, Alcohol is nothing but a induced catalyst. What we require at work is our own brain and physics which is not induced. Once the same is induced, what impact it will have at work.
