Just lost mine and I don't know how to get usable wood to make a hut

You do that through your ax.

Use the ax to chop the small branches you see around your farm and in the caves. Each branch is worth 1 wood.

Once you have upgraded your ax you can chop down the stumps with charged shots. Each stump is worth 10 wood. The more powerful your ax is, the fewer fully-charged shots it will take to chop the stump down.
