so...
prior to the 1921 federal election there were two parties (liberal and conservative) represented in parliament. SInce then. 3 or more parties have arisen. WHy do u think this happened?

Education, required for better quality workers, also gave them the ability to express themselves, and organize. Corruption in the Liberal Party (honors scandal sound familiar?).

Given a choice between a potential revolution (Russia, Germany, Italy, France), the UK opted for the Labor Party (sponsored by the Trades Union Movement). Others sprang up with the increased democratic possibilities.

Not sure where the figure of 25K for the Some comes into anything, they could lose that on a good morning. Average British casualties on a day of no action was 300. The Somme claimed over 1 million lives.

The chief reason was the carnage from the Great War (World War One). In one single battle (the Battle of the Somme) Britain lost 25 thousand dead! This despite a fierce artillery bombardment so loud it could be heard in London. Both of the pre-war parties had agreed across the dispatch table in the Commons to support the war with little or no dissent during its conduct. From 1921 on Great Britain made pacifism fashionable. It took the specter of Adolph Hitler and the blitz of 1941 to put those feelings to bed.

Voters like to think they have an alternative from the major parties.
