Are you a female or a male? I was thinking he could bring you one of those knock off bags from the chinese kids..(louis vuitton, or coach)...How about some skates from Rockefeller?

'Cheap' is relative, and you don't say where you are. I do know that most blue jeans (Levi's especially) are a whole lot cheaper here in the States than they are in a lot of countries.
Otherwise, our chocolate products aren't very good compared to Europe/UK, so don't ask for that. I know that my friend who lives in the UK misses Peanut Butter most of all, so that might be something if you don't have that where you are.

Of course, there's always little things like miniature Statues of Liberty, or something like that.

Do you collect any kind of item? Coffee Mugs, paperweights, shopping bags, shot glasses, spoons, post cards, thimbles, plates? He can probably find any of those with "I Love New York on them (or I "Heart" NY) T-Shirts and caps are a fun travel gift and easy to pack.
