I know on some Chevy's you can turn off half the cylinders of the car. Can you do this with any car or is there a special set up that would be needed?

You'd need a special set up with the computers to stop injecting fuel into the cylinders you want to turn off.

Cylinder management has been around for a while. Cadillac's had them back in the 80's, but were so unreliable that some people had to rewire the computers to make them a constant V8.

The new Honda Accord V6 can also turn off cylinders, and can change to 3, 4, or 6 cylinders.

Some cars like corvettes will turn off 2 cylinders when you're on the highway crusing ( to save fuel) no you can't do this on any car unless it came equipped with all the electronics from the factory or you're an electrical wizard and can design your own system

no, but my Tahoe goes into 4 cylinder mode when the computer senses engine load doesn't need all 8 cylinders, but the computer controls it all.
