Unfortunately, there's no way to know whether your children will resent a very unique name or embrace it. Although, I don't consider myself boring or all that traditional, I often cringe when I hear the names people give their children. I imagine horrible playground beatdowns in their futures. You'll both have to be willing to compromise.

Suggestions:
Maybe you could each privately make a list of your 10 (or 20) most favorite names and then go over them together and see if there is even one name in common. That is how my parents decided on my sister's name.
I am sure that you can find some common ground somewhere.
Worse comes to worse- each put names into a hat and draw one out.
My heart goes out to you, I understand that it must be tough when you have different tastes. It is important that you both like the name though.

Could you give the baby a 'fairly traditional' name with a cool, more 'out there' nickname? Or do the opposite...give the kiddo an 'out there' (but kinda long) name and then give her an 'average' nickname? Because that way you both can call her what you want and it will make it special to have her parents have different ways of addressing her. My parents called me different things growing up. It was neat (I felt special that my Dad called me something that no one else did). Just an idea! Good luck. Sometimes the hardest things are that which we expected to be no object :)

Both make a list of 10 names you like and cross match them. Try and find a similarity between names on the two lists and then you should be able to find one that suits you both.
And if you can't agree on a middle name then don't have one. Or use your middle name or his middle name for the baby.
Best of luck

How about he chooses either the first or middle name, and you choose the other? Convince him that the odd names are cute! I like weird names so much better than normal ones. Why not go for something in between, Like Peyton for a boy and Kendall for a girl? Good luck though! Just wondering- what are his other kids names?

Well, my best suggestion would be get a few baby name books from the library and go through every single name until ya'll hit something you agree on. It's time consuming, but you'll find names you never thought of or forgot.
Here are some ideas:
*Jesse
*Carmen
*Malia (Hawaiian for Mary)
*Iris
*Max
*Jacob

Well I like more unique names too, but my husband is french and likes traditional french names, so of course it was compromising time, ughhh, but in the end i like our childrens names.
Emmett Aime
Isabelle Eve
Eloise Lily
We also considered Jasper Pierce, Edward Llewellyn, Jackson Mark, Jude Daniel, and Theodore Mattheiu.
I love our girls names also, Audrey Kate, Evangeline Marie, Matilda, Genevieve, Emmaline, and Charlize
