I'm going to be taking my mom lipstick shopping as part of a birthday gift. Problem: Not sure which lines would work best for her.

Lipstick is the main makeup she wears and she's always just picked up drugstore brands which are so hit-or-miss! She's 50 now (though looks about 42), has light olive toned skin, brown/black hair and hazel eyes. She can pull off medium vibrant colors because they balance out the drama of her dark hair, so she tends to choose magenta-ish tones.

Any suggestions?

I work in Macy's Cosmetic Dept. There are so many brands to choose from. Mac and especially Dior are my favorites. Beautiful colors. Have fun just looking and you can also try them on at any counter. Always make sure that the lipstick is cleaned and sanitized before you try it on.
Your mother sounds like she's beautiful.
Have fun.

OK. I wear drugstore brands, which I like - especially since it is hard to find 'autumn' lipstick shades.
Your Mom is a Winter, which is a cool shade. They all have blue undertones.
Look for deep pinks [ rose, raspberry ], coral, cherry reds, plum, and burgundy.
Best lipsticks:
Allure - Chanel Rouge Allure
Glamour - Chanel, Dior, YSL
InStyle -Nars
All department store lipsticks cost approximately twice as much as drugstore ones.

Kiss, the best lip color depends on what the person wearing it thinks. I'm 50ish and have worn the lip colors found at aularale.com/7002 for several years now and I think they're the best. The colors are true, long wearing and don't change on me. I believe your Mom would like them too. Try Mystic Wine, Frosted Cranberry, Ripe Cherry, Wild Berry and get the Lip Conditioner to apply to lips before lip color - it gives a nice sheen to the lip color and can be worn alone. Email me at nesa23us@yahoo.com if I can help you further.

My mother loves Chanel and Estee Lauder lipsticks because they have more neutral and mature colors for her and they're excellent quality.
