when they come through the drive-thru? People think just because it is fast food that all the workers are stupid and that it is easy work. It is not easy! You don't have to be rude and obnoxious to the workers. I had some snot-nosed teen-ager come through my drive-thru last night complaining that he had been in line for 6 minutes, and that he wanted a free sundae. I looked at my screen and saw the drive thru times, and told him "No you have only been in line for 4 minutes and I am busy and working by myself and shut the window in his face. People need to have some respect and manners, whether it is fast food or not!

If my son ever treated someone like that I would knock him down a notch. Not only would I make him appologize, but I would make him work for a fast food place in High school so he sees how hard it is. This kid was driving a nice car, so mommy and daddy probably handed it over to him so he thinks that everything should be handed over.

He is also a jerk every time he comes in. I told the assistant manager next time he comes in and is rude I'm going to tell him to leave.

DAVSTER: When it is the same people being rude every time they come in we do not have to put up with it. We CAN and he HAVE told customers to leave. We have the right to refuse service to anyone!

I agree. I work at Subway and we some really rude people come in. Last night I had to work at a different shop than my usual and everything was different. This man asked for honey oat bread, which we had run out of. He said to me 'Well that's not f*ucking good enough'. I said I was sorry for the inconvenience. He told me I was a stupid little girl, which I am far from. I don't know the answer to your question, but I agree with you.

People today live in their own self-centered little world and anything (or anything) that gets in their way or slows them down, they get mad at it. I've worked in fast-food for a year and a half now and I totally understand what you mean. And I'm sure you've realized that it's not only customers, but also employees and managers that are so rude. I think you did right in the situation with the teenager who demanded a sundae. I've noticed so many of my fellow employees who resent customers, or are very rude to them. I've discovered however, that if you're nice to the customer, the customer is usually much nicer, so you're only making it worse by being rude. Although, I know, some customers seem determined to be sour. I had one customer one time who yelled at me becuase I had to check his old $20 bill under the uv light. At that time it was our policy to do so because we had received a number of fake ones. He got really mad and started calling me racist, and threatning to sue us.
But, yeah, I know, sooooooo many customers treat us like scum...the trick is to not take it personally and not to take it out on the next customer.
:)

HMMMM seems that you deserve what you got. Karma is a *itch and You, to me are rude as hell also.
First of all, why would someone have a candle where an infant could get at it? That is just totally irresponsible. If this is something that really happened call their doctor. If you put burn cream in the blister they might get it in their mouth.
Wher e in the hell do you get off judging me!! I have 2 jobs (not at a fast food place mind you) and go to school ( to be an OBGYN) FULL TIME. I am doing this ALL so that my son can have a good future. He just became mobile and i had thought that i had baby proofed the house so screw you!! I love my son more than anything in this world and i would never want him to get hurt and it killed me to SEE him get hurt. So was it stupid for me to forget about the candle...yes....BUT DONT EVER CALL ME IRRESPONSIBLE!!! I could be mean and ask y you work at a fast food place and not have a STABLE job, but that would be stooping to your level. HAVE A GOOD DAY!!!!
p.s. FOR YOUR INFO.... I DID CALL THE DOCTOR...RIGHT AWAY ACTUALLY, but thanks for caring........

Haha I had the same sort of experience...
A teenage boy came in to the restaurant and ordered a sandwich. I was the only one on line which is pretty normal for the amount of business at the time. So his sandwich comes on the screen and it is at .46 seconds when he says to me, "can you move any quicker" (his sandwich is almost done). So i said to him "excuse me" because I thought I misheard and he was like.. "i have to get to community service so you NEED to hurry up" So I told him he only has .46 seconds on his order and it will be ready in a minute and that he is very rude. He freaked out and jumped up on the counter and I was like "you need to get down or I am calling the police" So he was like, "you call them" So i went in the back and came back out and he was there so I threw the sandwich at him and he left.
It is not just teenagers that are rude. It is everyone. I had someone tell one of our managers, "just how hard is your job anyway". Well how rude, if they only knew all the work they did for crappy pay.
I am very nice to customers. I even have customers that come back just to see me.. This guy was on drugs or something.

Unfortunately, we live in the day and age where some people are raised to be rude and disrespectful. We have neighbors that are that way, but they expect our respect. Sounds like the guy wanted something for free, another expectation of some people now days.

Sorry to say this but I find yours - and a few other stories here - to be the rude ones. First you describe him as snot nosed, displaying obvious bigotry, then you told him you were too busy to serve him, then you slammed the window in his face.
If I had a server in drive through do that to me, I'd go in and try my best to have him sacked. He was a customer and you are expected to be kind and tolerant of customers and never can be rude to them. Its just part of the job.
He wasn't rude, he was impatient and maybe a little cheeky asking for a free sundae.
Let me turn the tables. You go into the DMV, wait 20 minutes then when you get to the counter you complain about the wait. The employee tells you its only been 15 minutes, that he's too busy to serve you and puts up a next window sign. Wouldn't you scream bloody murder to his supervisor? I would.
Guess I'm not getting best answer but I do hope you teach your kids the proper responses to rude customers - "I'm sorry you feel the wait was long, my systems tell me you placed your order four minutes ago and I'm sorry, I cannot provide you a free sundae for a four minute wait."
Edit: The example just isn't close to being rude. My daughters are both supervisors at Burger King. Their standard is 2:30 for drive through; usual time for a shift is about 1:00 so 4:00 minutes plus the time waiting to get to the speaker is quite long. Their reaction didn't involve swearing or the throwing of foood or, in one case decoration of the lobby with feces so its not even close to rude. Your assumption that they are rich spoiled brats because its a nice car also imples a severe chip on your shoulder. I strongly believe in personal responsibility. If I was their parent, I'd be upset; if I were your manager, I'd be even more upset.

I agree. People should treat workers with respect.
You do have the right to be treated descently and not to be talked down to because of your job. No job is a bad job if it pays your bills.

You should have given him a free sundae. I would have fixed a sundae and missed his hand and dumped it in his car and closed the window.
