to be trained? And can someone with a criminal record be a Social worker?

This will vary to some degree by school.

However the short answer is YES to both. Most programs allow you to be a student with a felony conviction. The university may require you to go through a process to determine if you are a risk/threat to others. So the weapons charge could be a challenge - the length of time since the conviction and what you have been doing will help (the longer and more involved you have been socially the better). If this was a youthful indiscretion that is better than it happened last year.

As for working as a social worker. Your record may keep you from some jobs (and some internships) however, in my career I've had many students who were convicted felon's and got good jobs afterward.

When you answer the last question, you have the answer to the first - even if they admit you, if you can't hold a job in the field, why take the training.
