Any specific stipulations for the state of Illinois? Can they have you arrested?

depending on the state law where you live at a repossesor can take your car with the right paperwork from basically anywhere as long as they don't have to move anything to get it out. This includes closed garages, other cars, motorcycles... etc.. Anything that is high dollar and could be damaged can't be moved. Also most states will not allow them to come onto private property to remove a vehicle without a police escort. In missouri if you catch them before they get it off the property they must sit it back down and leave. Most repossessors will wait til you go into the store or work and then take the car. Some wait til they think you are asleep and try to sneak it off but a good repossesor will come to your door and knock. Ask you for your keys and hope you are willing to let them just drive it away. If your vehicle is about to get repossessed I would be contacting the finance person that you owe and try talking to them before the repossessors get it. Some will just let you turn it in and walk away. Either way is better than a repossessor getting it. They go thru them and decide what is trash or not and then you get to get what they removed back if you are lucky. Any money or high dollar equipment in the vehicle you can pretty much write it off if the repo man comes knocking.

Repossessors usually cannot break the law to repossess your car. In other words, they cannot break into your locked garage to take your car. They also, usually, cannot take your car if it is on an Indian Reservation (US).

Since you can't drive the car, what would be the purpose of keeping it?
