Do they think about how much it will hurt their spouse?

Absolutely not...only themselves. It is a total act of selfishness. Taking what they want without regard to the other people that they will be hurting. Even if it's a one time thing, there is always that moment when they have an opportunity to say no and remain true to their marriage vows. They make the choice. They are the one who promised before God and witnesses to forsake all others and stay only with this one person they have chosen for the rest of their lives. That's the part I don't understand...why get married if you never intend on keeping that promise.

Cheating is always a choice a thought out plan and never a mistake. If a person ever really cared how it would affect their spouse they wouldn't be able to do it! If they thought about you it would take the enjoyment out of it for them. Many do not care what the consequences are because many will not tell on themselves and plan on you not finding anything out about it. They only give thought about it after they have been caught because they don't want to lose the security of home, the children if any and hitting them where they hurt most.....and that is in their wallet!!

People who cheat never think about their spouse. They don't know how much it can hurt. The only way to know that is to be cheated on. Truly I don't think they care about the consequences of their actions, if they do consider it then it must be worth the risk.

There are probably some people who do think about the consequences about cheating but my ex-husband certainly isn't one of them. And no he didn't think about how much it would hurt me.

They already feel their marriage is on the rocks (no one that is in a happy marriage has an affair). They feel their spouse will not really care.

Not usually. Sometimes after they cheated they think about them but usually they think about themselves and what they want.
