What happened when people were evacuated:

We had no clue where the storm was going to hit, so we didn't know who to evacuate. New Orleans got the order first, so by the time it rolled around to Mississippi, most of the city were honking their horns on the interstates and highways. We didn't want to spend the hurricane in a car.

The New Orleans Levees:

They failed because they were old. Dubya didn't blow them up.

New Orleans:

Was an unexpected victim of the storm. It had a bit of wind damage before the levees failed. The storm was not supposed to affect the city of New Orleans at all. New Orleans was more of a political disaster than a natural disaster; people were ripping off the government, Nagin couldn't keep his head straight, and everyone was overwhelmed.

Mississippi:

Got slammed, picked up, slammed again. Storm surges of over 30 feet washed away mostly everything within five blocks of the beach and flooded houses along rivers, creeks, and even large ditches. Wind damage was also severe, with many tornadoes flung off from the infamous Northeastern Quadrant. (Bad spot for any hurricane.) One of the only reasons that Mississippi even got a lick of attention after the levees breeched, in my opinion, is the fact that one of ABC's anchors came from Pass Christian, MS.
