first, you want to find the amount it decreased by, by use of this equation :

original amount - new amount
which in this case is :

9 - 5 = 4

so, the amount of decrease is 4.

then, you want to find the percent it decreased by, by use of this equation :

amount decrease / original amount.

which, in this case is :

4 / 9

4 / 9 = 44%

so, the percent decrease is 44 % .

From 9 to 5, if we see the numbers from nine (which is bigger then five) to five , it means decrease

If you want to know how many percent it decreased then just calculate
5/9*100 % = 55.6%

actually it is from this equation
9*X = 5
X= 5/9
X= 0.556

then if you want to get the percentage just magnify it with 100%

OK? Try it....

decrease of 44%
To get this (this goes for increases and decreases in percents) you get the difference between the two numbers (in this case it's 4) then you divide that by the original number (which is 9 in this case).
