Not often enough. The longer I let the noise in and don't listen, the more detached and seperated I become from myself and my identity gets lost in my ego.

I think it's a good question?
But, how can we listen the silence. What we can do is feel or experience it. Do you agree?
Feeling the self silence is a great experience which comes with practice. Inner silence is character of quality life of higher order of living.
Whenever the mind is peaceful I listen to inner silence, at other times mind is agitated and full of activity of the worldly things.

I was lucky enough to be taught meditation by a southern baptist minister in my youth.

Serveral times a day a enter the state where my consciousness is void and the only thing in my mind is the sound of my ambient environment. It is like my thought becomes the hum of my computer or the breeze outside or the sound of crickets but not thought in the traditional sense. Where words or concepts cloud my brain.

In case you are talking about listening to others, silence is one of the best tools of negotiation. Just sit and listen first. Otherwise you may give in much more then needed.

Blessings and peace to all,
all in all,
B

It is within this silence
I chose to see the tangled
twisted web we weave
when there roaring deafening
sounds drown out the
stroke of the brush that has
made this contour that threatens
my demise
In my silence i see beyond
the boundaries where hope lies
in waiting , in wanting, in spherical
fantasy, my silence breaks the
deafening roar
here, oh it is here
I am alive once more

Always, for in silence you speak yourself clearly and loudly; and in speech you only manifest that silence. For one should wish to visit the city and not the mirage taht the city reflects.

I am silent most part of the day but my mind never is. It chatters and chatters away all the time. Not even in my sleep do I have respite. It talks to me every night...in dreams. I can't help but listen to it...
