I was so honest I didn't look at the other answers even. For
hubby and I both liked that show and saw repeats last year
or the year before. The actors' name was Peter Duel. And
he did in fact, kill himself. He has or had a brother, also an
actor, Jeffrey Duel. It's too bad the show didn't run longer
than it did, with the replacement for Duel. I actually liked him
better than Peter.

I am 61, but I don't remember who "Alias Smith and Jones" were, much less who played them.

i think it was peter duel...who if i'm right only did the pilot episode . died from gunshot wound ,apparently a suicide.
