I'm thinking it has never happened, but I'm curious.

It's happened many, many times, just not since 1995.

In the 1980s alone, they both missed in 1982, 1983,1984, 1985, 1987 and 1989. And there was a seven-year stretch from 1968-74 where neither made the playoffs, too.

They're successful franchises, but both have had their down times.

Consider that the wildcard was first implimented in 1995, if every post-season featured the Yankees or the Red Sox, then the Orioles and Blue Jays wouldn't have any world series titles since they've both always been divisional competators of the Red Sox and Yankees.

The Orioles have 3 titles 1966, 70, and 83. The Jays have two all together going back-to-back in 92 and 93.

Well it did happen, but a long time ago. The Yankees has made the playoff like 7 years in a row,but not Boston. So it happened sometime before the Yankees were in a playoff appearance role.

Yes. Lots of times. Most recently 1993. (well, 1994 but nobody made the playoffs that year).

I don't know the exact dates, but there was a few years in their club history that neither of the teams have made the playoffs in the same year
