The elected officials are there because God allowed them to be elected or made it so they hold the office they do. There is not a move we make or a breathe we breathe that wasn't given by God. Those elected officials are also under the govern of God. He "rules" over everything always.

It's more than possible, it's fact. That's why the 2008 election winner of the presidency, AND Congress, will all return to the Republicans, unless God has a plan to show Liberals how idiotic they've been acting since the first day they took freedom of speech away from a Conservative, and celebrated it afterwords. You ALL now what I'm talking about, Libs, don't ya?

Sure - you may have to obey the laws, but these laws were founded on Christian beliefs, and the beliefs of the big three religions are pretty similar (on conduct). However, you can let your religion govern your life regardless of what other people do.
Think about our problem with the fundamentalist Muslims and their obscured view of jihad (I've read the Qu'ran, I know what it really says) they believe we are not living by the law of Allah and want that to change. It's true, as long as these strict religious laws aren't enforced people will not always follow them. Look what the Catholic Church had to do back in the middle ages. We HAVE to obey the laws (many people don't ) but you may also obey your chosen God.

Everything in creation is subject to God, who, however, has bestowed free will upon us so we can choose freely to be a participant in his kingdom or to be antagonistic to it and thereby antagonistic to our own best interests and personal enlightenment - not a fun situation to be in.
Elected officials rule only over material details and the same as each of us, are subject to the inescapable results of each of their choices.

God doesn't rule over humanity.
Heck, if one exists it just chills in the nether realm doing whatever the heck immortal divine deitys do. It has better things to do than care about our screwed up little world, and if it does care, it should probably do a better job of showing it.

Sure -- many countries have a national religion and impose one particular definition of God (to various degrees) -- look at England and Saudi Arabia for two such examples.
The basic decision is whether we are going to have churches making our laws -- and thus have one dominant church that can forbid all other faiths -- or whether we want people making their own laws -- and leaving religion as independent and personal.

I really don't understand what your concept of God is, but yes, nothing is impossible for Him and people will always believe. Jesus said that we should render unto Cesar (or in our time our government) that which is Cesar's and render unto God that which is God. no matter who your government officials are, God rules over us.

There have almost always been elected officials or even un-elected...even during Jesus time on earth. “Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s”

In a democracy elected officials are supposed to serve, not rule. In principle, anyway.
