I just bought a new Mazda 3 and I was wondering if driving on the freeway at about 55-60 mph for about 130-150 miles straight would be okay for the new engine.

Every new car I have had or every engine I have rebuilt, I drive it a maximum of 45 mph for the first 500 miles then 55 to 60 for the next 500. Then not over 70 for the next 1000. I change the oil at 2000 miles...I recommend GTX 10W-30 but not synthetic at this point. don't use synthetic until you have at least 5000 miles the rings won't properly seat. Then use a good oil synthetic or regular...again I recommend GTX.

It's the first thing I asked the mechanic at the dealership when I got my new car. He said there was no such thing as a "break in" period anymore. Go any where I wanted. So I did! Traveled 700 miles round trip at freeway speeds with only 56 miles on the odometer starting out.

Car did GREAT!

You need to drive the car the same way you will from day to day to break in the engine. It causes more damage to go 55 then drive like a nut after a few miles on the engine.

Sure, go for it. I believe now they say to vary the speed some if you are going on a long trip and the engine is not broken in.

Besides that, it is under warranty, drive it like you want to.

good luck.

Modern cars come "broken in " from the factory.. It's the 2000's man ! not the 70's anymore. Drive the car as you'd drive any other car.

It's not going to hurt it. Check your owner's manual for the break in procedure and follow it as closely as possible.
