With Louis alive there was always the risk that the privileged, elites - the titled aristocrats and high churchmen - 1-2% who had controlled almost all the wealth of France - might return him to power and bring back the monarchy as before.
That should be all the reason needed unless you just wish to have him 'punished' for being a poor ruler out of touch with the desires and needs of the majority of his people.
