Most shops (if not all), say not valid with any other offer when it comes to discounts, but if you find a shop who is willing to offer double discount,But which ever way they apply the discount the answer is always the same.
1. $24.00 less 20% ($4.80) = $19.20 less 30% ($5.76)
So the purse should cost you $13.44.
2. $56.77 less 33% ($18.73) = $38.04 less 15% ($5.71).
So the Gameboy should cost you $32.33.

1. 20% off is the same as multiplying by .80. 30% is the same as multiplying by .70
(the parenthesis aren't necessary, just writing it so it's clearer what's happening)
(24 * .80) *.70 = 19.2*.7 = 13.44
2. Using idea from 1
Multiply (56.77 * .67) * .85

The purse will cost 13.44
20% off of 24.00 is the number that is 80% of 24. Multiply 0.80 * 24 to get $19.20. Then 30% off of $19.20 is the number that is 70% of 19.20. Multiply 0.70 by 19.20 to get $13.44.
The gameboy will cost 32.33
$56.77 * 0.67 = $38.04 (rounded)
$38.04 * 0.85 = $32.33

on the purse, it depends on whether the 30% comes off before or after the 20%, it makes a difference.
The same situation applies to the gameboy.
