defenetly strech out a lot.
and when everyone starts sprinting at the beginning,
don't copy what theyr doing, but find a nice, jogging pace so you dont become tired easily.
you should also get a good night sleep,
and a healthy breakfast.

Make sure you stretch first off and you are well rested. Ask your teacher if you can use your ipod, which will help take your mind off of running. If this isn't possible try to keep your mind on other things-if you are distracted its easier to keep going. Make sure you are not gulping in breaths of air...control your breathing..breathe through your diaphragm (place your hand under your boobs in the middle and its in that area) rather than your lungs-this will help you not run out of breath so fast. Make sure you utilize your arms..seems silly but theres alot of power to push you when you keep your arms bent and moving the whole time. If your legs don't want to move, make sure you are lifting them (high knees) not dragging them. Don't feel ashamed if you have to slow down or stop-just don't stop completely-keep walking! Set a pace for yourself, don't try to go really fast at first or you will burn yourself out. Stay positive and if you get like halfway and feel like you can't run the whole thing completely, run the straight part of the track and speed walk the curved part. Good luck hun!

1. Go to sleep early so you are energized
2. Eat good breakfast
3. Stretch
4. Don't drink water before the mile
5. Sing a pop song in your head (always helps me)
6. Try to not walk unless necessary
7. Think positive things
=D

I'm in track so you should be very well hydrated!!! Stretch before you start and maybe take a little warm up 1/2 lap or something.
Eat healthy foods only for the day because any other junk food will slow you down. Bring a water bottle.

When you start getting tired, don't take really fast, shallow breaths but take long, deep breaths. If you breath too fast the side of your stomach will start to hurt really bad. Also, instead of bouncing up and down as you run try to spring forward with every step.

Don't start running super fast, but keep yourself at a pace so you won't run out of energy and try not to talk to friends becuz that will waste your energy, but you can run with them. Bring a cold water bottle so that you'll be determined to finish and drink that ice cold water you'll need.

do the stretching, eating right [just be sure not to eat like an hour before you run!], etc. like everyone said.
i just have a little comment about the breathing.
i've noticed some are saying inhale through your nose, exhale through your mouth.
well, i've heard this is the correct way to breathe, but i say just do what is ever most normal, and comfortable for you.
i personally, just usually breathe through my mouth, and i'm a cross country runner, and i'm fine. i tried the whole in through the nose, out through the mouth thing, but because i wasn't used to it, it just made it harder for me.
and like one poster said, just remember to breathe.
good luck btw.
:]
you'll do fine.

Before you run, stretch, (especially your hamstrings) drink lots of water, and keep your hair in a pony tail.
During and after you run, breath in from your nose, and out from your mouth.

Try to keep your arms swinging in a smooth rhythm at 90 degree angles. Keep your head up and lean a bit forward, don't lean back.
