If you want to go natural, use dried cow manure and a spreader. It's very inexpensive to buy in bags, and it works wonders on the lawn.

To have a quality lawn you need to maintain it properly. Lawns need routine maintenance to to make it look good. Depending on where you live St Augistine Grass goes dormant in the winter . As winter is approaching the grass may be going dormant. if this is the case and you live in a cooler area then you would have to apply a fertilizer higher in phosphorous. This neutrint is most comminly in thoose winterizer type fertilizers. Chinch bugs are mostly active during the warmer times of the year, as the weather is getting coooler in some areas of the country then applying sevin ( active ingredient Carabil) granular form will not be as effective as applying it before the warmer weather hits in again. St Augistine grass is a warm season grass that thrives in areas in the south to southern California. Sevin will control grubs, thier is still time to apply this if you live in a warmer area. The concern with your broad leaf weeds usually 2-4,D and Morcrop will do trick. This chemical usually comes in a granulated form that is applied with a spreader , just like Carabil( Sevin).
The way to make you lawn thick, green, , and vigorous is to preform necessary maintenance chores as aeration, dethatching, irrigation auditing, and fertilization. Aeration reduces soil compaction, making the soil richer, makes watering and fertilization more effective. Dethatching , makes irrigation and fertilization more effective, reduces insect populations, and disease populations. Irrigation auditing involves inspecting and monitoring the irrigation system for proper coverage, leaky and broken sprinklers, sprinlker timing, and irrigation efficiency. By doing these necessary practices routinely you will have a a more vigorous turf that can out compete weed insect, and disease species. A lawn with low vigour is more attractive to these invading organisms.--- Good luck!

as for the broadleaf just spend some time pulling them out. to got your lawn green real fast and last for a month buy a bag of ammonia sulfate. it is usually next to the fertilizers in the store and it only costs about 4-5 dollars a bag which can last a long time depending on how large your lawn is. get a whirlly bird spreader and apply it very sparse at first and water it in. if you see no results in a few days add some more.

Use soil conditioner, you can get get it in liquid form to spray with your hose, or buy bags of it (usually manure compost) for like 2 bucks a bag, it will take a season or two to really make the yard look good, right now is perfect time cause the lawn will look great by next summer. It works to adjust the Ph, minerals, and density of the soil, and aerates - great for clay soils, makes a happy places for worms to live, which is always GREAT for growth in any garden or lawn. Soil conditioner also helps the fertilizer work even better!
