Honestly the first thing that popped in my head was Kevin Smith.
But with just the initial and last name it's difficult to say which gender it would be. If someone was talking about a K. Smith, I would probably think they were referring to a Kay Smith.
I would never choose not to read a book just because a man or woman wrote it. I've read many books by both sexes. It just depends on what the books subject is and if I find it interesting or not. It never has to do with the gender of the author.
I'm female by the way.

I would assume it was a woman, because women are more likely to use pseudonyms and initials than men. I know a female author who writes in male point of view and uses a male pseudonym as suggested by her publisher.
I would not be less inclined to read it if it was written by a woman or by a man. It's irrelevant as long as the story is good.

Personally, I wouldn't have the slightest idea. Therefore, I'd have to give it a 50-50 either man/boy or woman/girl.
If the book is an adventure story or sci-fi, I might give the edge to a man and if it's a romance I'd give the edge to a woman.
I wouldn't care if it was written by a man or a woman, in any genre, as long as it looked interesting to me.
last question: female

I think of a guy maybe 80% girl 20%. The authors name really doesn't make a difference if I am drawn in my the title and subject.

It sounds like a girl to me, but its probably because my mom knows someone with that name. Now, me being a girl, would be more inclined to read it. Although my fav author is a guy who writes like he understaned girls really well so you can never really tell.

i rmemeber reading a book called The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton in high school. After we read it the teacher told us it was written by a female. I would never have guessed it. The teacher said the author believed no one would read the book if they knew it was written by a female.

I'd say fifty fifty.
I'm an avid reader so it would depend on what kind of book it was rather than the gender of the author.

hmmm... well it would just as likely be a female name as a male one, although I know of very few guy names beginning with a K. and as to if I would be more apt to read it, the title is bound to be more of a deciding matter for me.

i think that it really depends on what type of book it is. Like, if it were a science fiction story, I would expect it to be a man. But if it were a romance novel, then I would think it was a woman.
