We have a representative government, because it is a lot more efficient than having every one of us writing, reading and deciding every law in every state of the country.
Less expensive too.

Most people don't want to take responsibility for their own lives -- they don't want to make choices or put the effort into deciding what to believe or what to do.
The logical outcome of that is a representative govt -- where we elect leaders to make laws and rules and decisions for us.
And logical step toward that is allowing the people who have power and money to make the decisions about who gets elected -- one less thing for individuals to think about.
