First of all, it would depend the make and year of your truck. If was an obd1 emission system it would not hurt it by taking it off, the truck will be slightly louder, but most likely will fail the emissions test. If it as obd2 system (mid 90's and newer) oxygen sensors measure the efficiency of the cat and can trigger a check engine light. To the guy that says cats get 1200 degrees you have no idea what you are talking about. Most cats when hot are 300-450 degrees when they are working properly. The only way a cat would get to over 500 degrees, let alone a rediculous 1200 degrees is if the engine was dumping raw gas into the exhaust and practically igniting the converter.

It's called a catalytic converter.
It will not make the truck louder
It will not pass an inspection if you're required to where you live.
It's illegal too
You didn't say what year the vehicle is? if it's a 96 or newer and you have a post- catalytic converter oxygen sensor you'll have performance problems

actually, the cats are not designed to re vent fumes back to the motor, they are designed to heat up to over 1200 degrees and burn off un burned fuel etc to help keep the air cleaner. Removing the cats from a vehicle is a felony and carries some pretty darn heavy fines and up to 10 years in federal prison as well. As for making it "louder", not really, it might change the "tone" slightly, but that's all. It's the muffler(s) that affect the loudness of the exhaust.

the catalytic converter is designed to re-vent fumes back into the engine which reduces emissions.
It would have a minor impact on the noise, but not like removing the muffler.
Since they were only introduced in the late 70's, and all cars before that didn't have them, I can't imagine it would mess up your truck.
That being said, when you get your car inspected, they will be looking for that and not pass you if it's missing, to say nothing of it's benefit to our environment.

If you remove the "cadilac" converter, it will no longer be a cadilac truck.
