No! I think that in the majority of cases, poverty is a viscious cycle that is passed down through generations, especially when there is a lack of education. And in third-world countries, it is almost inescapable for the majority of people. It is NOT a punishment from God - it is reality for our world, and it is very unfortunate. It is NOT the way God originally created the world to be, but due to man's choices over the centuries, the world has become unlike the world God wanted us to have. However, we can all be God's messengers of help in this world, as everyone one of us can do something, no matter how small. The question for all of us (including me) should be: What can I do to help? There is something we can all do. Then poverty becomes an opportunity for all of us to get beyond our comfort zone and reach out and help someone. If we ALL did something, and kept doing something, it's my belief that eventually there wouldn't be poverty anymore. What's our excuse?

What kind of question is this? being poor is not a punishment from god, and people are not poor because they are lazy, as many have posted. poverty happens becuase thats the way society is structured. besides money is not the most important thing in life, most people choose not to go after lucrative jobs, instead they live very simple lives that are more rewarding in other ways. teachers for example...

No poverty is not a punishment from God. It is up to us whether or not we are poor did you use the wisdom God has given you did you seek his guidance when making decisions with your money if not then you have not submitted everything to him

MY OPINION TO THIS IS NO !NO! POVERTY IS NOT A PUNISHMENT FROM GOD. OUR LORD DOESN'T OPERATE BY DOING THINGS LIKE A PUNISHMENT THING. WE ARE GIVEN CHOICES AND WE DIFFERENTLY DO NOT MAKE GOOD CHOICES. OUR COUNTRY AND OTHERS COULD DO A LOT MORE FOR ITS SELF BUT FOR REASON OF AGAIN I WOULD SAY ITS JUST DON'T WANT TO SPEND THEM DOLLARS FOR THIS BUT WILL SPEND MILLIONS FOR OTHER PROGRAMS THAT I BELIEVE WE DON'T NEED.THE BIBLE SAYS PRAYER WILL CHANGE THINGS AND A GOOD TRUE BELIEVER WILL BUT YOUR GOOD FAITH IN THE WORKS OF OUR LORD. IS WHAT YOU NEED THEN REMEMBER THAT YOU HAVE TO BE A REBORN AGAIN AND IN GOD'S EYES BE HIS FOLLOWER. FAITH IN SOMETHING IS A HARD THING TO DO BUT ONCE A PERSON GETS WITH OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN THE RIGHT WAY THINGS WILL HAPPEN, AMEN

No think about the things you have not the things you don't have and pray to God and EVERYTHING will fall in to place. No matter what happens always ask God for help and trust that he will help you.

I think it is a blessing because I prayed to be more minimalistic. Oddly enough, the next day I had to sell all of my stuff do to a mishap with a phone bill.
To each his own, though.

What? No, poverty is because of people who aren't willing to do anything to get money except accepting welfare checks.
And wasn't Jesus poor?

Not at all. I think any negative life circumstance provides the experiencer with opportunity for learning compassion for others, and challenges them to improve their situation.
