Please don't say Heat waves. Yeah EVERYONE SAYS THAT BUT THEIR NOT! I'm thinking radiation But their not heat waves.. x.x

I understand exactly what you're talking about. I'm not exactly sure how to explain it, but here goes: the wavy lines you see are heat waves, and sometimes when something gets hot enough(like a grill) when you look over the object, the heat waves are visible

That is actually the heat vapors you see rising. One odd fact is that snipers use them to tell the wind direction and speed near the target.
