For halloween I'm being the tooth fairy, so I made some tooth earrings out of play dough for the costume. I really like how they've come out, but I'm afraid that if they're still soft on halloween and they get caught on something or somebody touches them, they'll be completely ruined. What can I do to make the play dough dry and become solid?

Do you mean Play Doh or homemade salt dough, etc?

Most "air-dry" clays will dry in 24 hrs. if they're left out in the air. Good circulation of air, lack of humidity, and heat will all speed up the process though, so put your pieces in a dry, warm place with good circulation or even in front of a fan...or you can put them in an oven on a very low temp (prob. as low as you can get it) for a few hrs or even less; if the heat is too high, air-dry clays can crack though.

Anything small enough to hang from your ears shouldn't take too long to dry anyway.

The way they make play doh these days it NEVER seems to dry. I hade a little hot dog for my son like a year ago and it is STILL pliable.

Why don't you grab some Elmers or Crayola air drying clay. They sell it at the grocery store near the crayola stuff.

play dough does not harden. this is not the material to use if you want hardened clay. it says so on the package I believe. a better solution is to make salt clay out of flour, water and salt and bake it in the oven, then seal it with matte or gloss medium (cheap and water soluble) alternatively , next time buy a package of air dry clay and do the project when it is assigned, not the day before it is due..

If it's regular Play-Doh out of the can it will air dry if you just leave it on a plate. Make sure it is no where any kind of humidity. So that leaves out the bathroom and kitchen.

you could turn your oven on very low, like 200degrees for 10 minutes at a time (check every ten minutes to be sure they are browning or cracking), probably 30 minutes altogether tops. then tomorrow (tuesday) coat them with varnish so even if they aren't entirely dried out they will be sealed which will protect them from being ruined.
