The person would have to WANT to get help for his alcoholism. The attitude will hopefully change after that.

Sounds like a personality disorder, specifically anti-social personality disorder. This is extrememly difficult to treat as people with this disorder tend to think that they don't have a problem - everyone else does. The prognosis is poor. These individuals do learn to play the psych game really quickly. They learn how to give to "right" answers so they appear normal. They may even begin to sincerely change... but only in a highly structured and controlled environment such as a prison mental ward. Let a guy like that out of the structured and controlled environment and he will revert to his negative behaviors. Keep the bum behind bars for life for the good of society.

That all depends on why he was violent and when. If it was when he was drinking, there may be a good chance for him to turn his life around. There have been all kinds of miracles when people get sober, but the man has to want to change. There are also anger management classes for the temper. If it was you, wouldnt you want another chance?

Yes..... Without Question. The first thing that he/or she would need to do is determine what he/or she really wants to do with their life. There is always a possibility to change with true desire and determination. The only thing that can stop that is if that person doesn't desire a normal productive life then.... The cycle continues. The main thing to realize is that anyone can change it's just a matter of wanting it enough to do so. The only other thing that could halt it is death.

To have the behavior one time, rehabilitate and never do it again...leading the best life possible...that would be one thing - but you're talking about someone that has been "in and out of jail" and has an "extremely violent alcoholic" tendency... I don't think it will happen.

Most violent alcoholics are violent after consuming large quantities of alcohol. They normally consume large quantities of alcohol in an effort to numb uncomfortable feelings that they have. When an alcoholic will confront issues from the past that continue to plague them, the drinking, and the subsequent violence, will disappear. It is no easy task convincing an alcoholic that there are underlying reasons for their drinking.

it doesn't take a miracle. it requires that the alcoholic recognize that he cannot drink, it requires that the alcoholic go into therapy for anger management, and it requires that he be willling to put in the work it takes to give up crime and be productive. It has been accomplished before and doubtless will be again. But it is entirely up to the individual.

Yes he could be used as a weight on the end of a rope.
I'm fed up people making excuses for low life scum that are the bane of our society.
Life is to short to keep giving these people chance after chance, & everytime they are given another chance somebody else suffers. There should be no excuse for violence.
